The Department of Sociology, Jengraimukh College was established in the year of 1973, the same year of the establishment of the college. By 1986, the department had three full time faculty members. The core objective of the department is to prepare and tune the undergraduate students with the updated knowledge of Sociology.The department aims to establish its students as responsible citizens of the nation. It takes every attempt of make them aware and conscious about the day to day happenings surrounding them by following thoroughly the syllabus provided by Dibrugarh University for today’s contemporary competitive environment in view of the needs the state in particular and the nation in general. Frequent interactions with the students, regular evaluation and its critical analysis of the teaching learning activities are other prime objectives of the department. The department has signed an MoU with the Department of Sociology, Ujani Majuli Kherkatia College and aims to sign MoUs with other Educational Institutes with ample objectives in order to achieve the excellence in pursuit of knowledge in Sociology as well as to excel the overall career of the students in the discipline. The department is equipped with a departmental library with focus of providing the students with necessary study materials. The department also focuses on organizing various workshops, seminars and awareness camps in order to attract and nurture the students for their overall academic enlightenment.

The department has an well equipped library that caters to students with both Honours as well as Generic and Discipline Specific Subjects in Political Science.
